David is a self employed Antarctic researcher, author
and publisher from New Zealand. David's hobbies are trapping, climbing,
mountain bike touring and he keeps a Polar museum at home. At the age
of 60 David went to Antarctica to work as a field assistant in the Australian
Antarctic Division's geosciences programme. He spent the 2000/2001 summer
at Law Base in the Larsemann Hills on the Ingrid Christensen coast of
Antarctica, not far from Davis station.
David's diary begins:
"I am presently on my way to Davis Station which may be reached
tomorrow and by Wednesday, I expect to be at Law Base. Here I will be
working on a science project until late February. This summer marks
25 years since I started working in Antarctica where much of my time
has been spent in the Ross Sea region and involved in historic site
conservation although I have done other things as well. My home is Christchurch
in New Zealand.
I will be returning to Hobart on voyage 6 (February/March 2001) and
then flying back to New Zealand for my annual mountain biking summer
vacation."
